چکیده

MBIA is the newest immunoassay technology and allows for detection of antibodies elicited by more than one microorganism in the same specimen, permitting multiplex testing. For further information on the performance of MBIA, please refer to the following recently published studies from Binnicker M et al. in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, 2011 and Gomez E et al. in Clinical and Vaccine Immunology, 2010.

Validation of reverse sequence screening for syphilis.

Syphilis, which is caused by Treponema pallidum, is a chronic bacterial infection that remains a public health concern worldwide. Serologic testing is the method most often used, as the bacterium cannot be cultured. Syphilis serological tests are divided into nontreponemal and treponemal tests, and neither is sufficient alone for diagnosis, as each type of test has limitations, including the po...

Characterization of Sera with Discordant Results from Reverse Sequence Screening for Syphilis

Reverse sequence screening for syphilis (RSSS) (screening with treponemal tests, followed by confirmation with nontreponemal tests) has been increasingly adopted. CDC recommends confirmation of discordant results (reactive EIA/CIA and nonreactive nontreponemal test) with Treponema pallidum particle agglutination assay (TP-PA). We characterized sera with discordant results from RSSS with Archite...

Direct comparison of the traditional and reverse syphilis screening algorithms in a population with a low prevalence of syphilis.

We describe the first direct comparison of the reverse and traditional syphilis screening algorithms in a population with a low prevalence of syphilis. Among 1,000 patients tested, the results for 6 patients were falsely reactive by reverse screening, compared to none by traditional testing. However, reverse screening identified 2 patients with possible latent syphilis that were not detected by...

The tradition algorithm approach underestimates the prevalence of serodiagnosis of syphilis in HIV-infected individuals

Currently, there are three algorithms for screening of syphilis: traditional algorithm, reverse algorithm and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) algorithm. To date, there is not a generally recognized diagnostic algorithm. When syphilis meets HIV, the situation is even more complex. To evaluate their screening performance and impact on the seroprevalence of syphilis in HI...

Comparison of Traditional and Reverse Syphilis Screening Algorithms in Medical Health Checkups

BACKGROUND The syphilis diagnostic algorithms applied in different countries vary significantly depending on the local syphilis epidemiology and other considerations, including the expected workload, the need for automation in the laboratory and budget factors. This study was performed to investigate the efficacy of traditional and reverse syphilis diagnostic algorithms during general health ch...
